Endourology and renal function in patients with calcified double J
Keywords:
Chronic kidney disease, catheters, endoscopy, ureteroscopyAbstract
Introduction: The calcified double J catheter is a complex complication to solve, associated with a higher risk of Chronic Kidney Disease. They require multimodal treatments and one or more endourology sessions for solution.
Objective: To evaluate the behavior of renal function after removal of the calcified double J catheter by endourology.
Methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out in 23 patients with calcified double J, treated by endourology, at the “Dr. Abelardo Buch López” between January 2019 to December 2022. Descriptive statistics were used.
Results: The most used endourological technique was Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy associated with Cystolitholapaxia with 39,1%, 78,3% of patients were catheter-free with a single session of surgical treatment. Kidney function improved in 69,6% after surgery, progressing to lower stages of Chronic Kidney Disease, especially G3a and G2.
Conclusions: The use of endourology for the removal of a calcified double J catheter showed improvement in postoperative renal function.
