"La persistencia o no de la fístula arteriovenosa. Un factor modificable del riesgo cardiovascular".

Introducción: La fístula arteriovenosa constituye el acceso vascular a elegir para acometer la terapia sustitutiva renal con hemodiálisis y contribuye a la supervivencia del paciente en el método depurador. Objetivo: Determinar la repercusión de la permanencia de la fístula arteriovenosa sobre el corazón. Material y métodos: Estudio cuasi-experimental conformado por dos grupos de receptores de trasplante renal con función adecuada; uno experimental, con cierre del angioacceso (n=68) y otro de comparación (n=69), no intervenido. En ambos, se compararon en dos tiempos (final – inicial), variables clínicas, de laboratorio y ecocardiográficas. Resultados: En el grupo experimental, se constató mejoría de las variables estudiadas respecto al de comparación con significación estadística. Conclusiones: El cierre de la fístula arteriovenosa en pacientes con trasplante renal funcional, representa un factor de riesgo cardiovascular modificable y no tradicional de disfunción cardiovascular.
